Lead (Pb) Free Services

Since July 2006, companies doing business with European Union Member States must comply with laws regarding the reduction of hazardous substances and the proper disposal of electronics waste.

In January 2006, OCM became a lead free manufacturer. Our Lead Free Manufacturing Program includes investment in capital and processes, as well as a lead-free transition program for our customers.

Lead-Free Capabilities

OCM was one of the first contract electronics manufacturers in the region to offer fully lead-free manufacturing capabilities. OCM is trained on the most current IPC workmanship standards encompassing lead-free workmanship (IPC-A-610-D). We offer a broad range of lead-free and traditional processes concurrently.

Our lead-free manufacturing capabilities include:

• Lead-free SMT line, washing equipment and processes
• Lead-free PTH line
• Lead-free processes. OCM staff is trained to IPC-A-610-D workmanship standards, as well as rework and repair standards (IPC 7711 and 7721). We have a certified IPC trainer on staff.

Lead-Free Transition Services

For customers who must move existing leaded products to lead-free platforms, our transition services include:

• Recommendations for components that are compliant with the Reduction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) legislation
• Recommendations for RoHS-compliant PCBs and higher temperature substrates
• Revision of panels to withstand the higher temperatures required for lead free processes without warping
• Lead-free design for manufacturing recommendations
