OCM Technology Announces New Quality-related Infrastructure
Ottawa, Canada – OCM Technology Inc. announced today its acquisition of a Photon Dynamics SV2100 automated optical inspection (AOI) system and a Takaya 8400cj fixtureless in-circuit tester.
The new AOI unit, essentially an automated complement to manual visual inspection (MVI), offers OEMs two main benefits: (1) improved quality levels due to the reduced operator fatigue and (2) greater speed (and therefore, reduced cost) compared with MVI.
Said George Henning, VP Manufacturing, “As diligent as our work force is, there are limits to the quality performance levels one can achieve relying only on manual visual inspection. The new AOI unit, coupled with the very good work our people do every day, should definitely produce worthwhile results for our customers.”
The company expects the AOI unit to be operational by the end of October 2003.
As well, OCM Technology also announced its acquisition of a Takaya 8400cj fixtureless in-circuit tester. The new unit offers OEMs the test coverage benefits of fixtured ICT with significantly less development cost and time. For customers that do not use ICT, the main benefits will be improved quality levels and a greater ability to de-bug non-functioning assemblies.
Said Terry Leung, senior test engineer, “The new Takaya unit will certainly help with our goal of achieving 6 Sigma quality levels on a consistent basis, not only by catching defects before they advance in the supply chain but also by providing us with greater levels of feedback into our assembly processes.”
The company expects the ICT system to be operational by the end of November 2003.
